Asahi Kasei Starts Pediatric Cresemba Trial

Asahi Kasei Therapeutics Corp. has started a Phase 2 study of Cresemba, known generically as Isavuconazol, in children at risk of deep-seated mycoses.

Trial Design

The Phase 2 study is multicenter and open-label, with no control group. Isavuconazol is already approved in Japan for adults with severe fungal infections, but not for pediatric patients. In Japan, its approved indications cover aspergillosis, including invasive aspergillosis, chronic progressive pulmonary aspergillosis and simple pulmonary aspergilloma, as well as mucormycosis and cryptococcosis in both pulmonary and disseminated forms, in adults.
