Gold is the most widely traded non-currency instrument on retail platforms. It is quoted per troy ounce against the dollar, with a standard contract of one hundred ounces, so a one-dollar move is worth one hundred dollars per lot.
The metal responds to real US yields more than to headline inflation: falling real rates lower the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset. Central-bank buying and geopolitical stress provide the structural bid.
XAU/USD sits in the metals group on our board. A standard contract is 100 troy ounces, which puts the value of a single pip at roughly $1.00. With a typical daily range of 3200 pips, a full-lot position moves through a meaningful amount of account equity in an ordinary session, so size the trade against the range rather than against the margin requirement.

No. The XAU/USD quote shown here is indicative demo data — a fixed, fictional snapshot dated 07/08/2026, 16:45 GMT. It does not update and is not sourced from any exchange or broker. Use your broker's own live feed before pricing or placing any trade.
Our demo board shows 28.0 pips, against a long-run average of 28 pips. Real spreads vary by broker, account type and time of day: they are tightest during the London and New York sessions and widen sharply around major data releases and in the thin hours after the New York close.
On a standard contract of 100 troy ounces, one pip is worth approximately $1.00. Scale that down proportionally for mini and micro lots — a 0.01 lot position moves at one hundredth of the figure quoted.
Sun 23:00 – Fri 22:00 GMT, daily break 22:00–23:00. Liquidity is not evenly distributed across those hours: expect the tightest spreads and the largest ranges when the primary session for this instrument overlaps with London or New York.
Our indicative figures are -18.6 on a long position and 6.4 on a short, per standard lot per night, with a triple charge applied on Wednesdays to cover the weekend. Positive numbers are credited and negative numbers are debited. Swap rates differ materially between brokers and change with policy rates.
